Are Vegetarians (And Vegans) Better Lovers?

By Johnathan P Cumberwell
We are what we eat.
What we put into our bodies creates who we become. Your muscles, cells, teeth and eyes have all been formed by the foods and drinks you have consumed.
So then the question is, what should we eat in order to live optimally?
A lot of scientific studies say that a whole foods, plant based diet is what works best for most people.
I myself am vegan and have been vegan (or vegetarian) for several years. I can note a substantial difference compared to the days of eating meat. But enough about my diet.

What is the best diet for functioning well sexually? Btw, I have previously written about this here.
If the best diet for functioning optimally is a whole foods and plant based, it is fair to assume that this is also the best diet for avoiding erectile dysfunction and for having a strong sex drive. As well as for having normal production of testosterone, dopamine and nitric oxide.
But let’s have a quick look at an unofficial (and perhaps not super serious) survey. Because it does give some interesting information.
This survey was done by the UK dating website illicitencounters. It asked 1,000 people, 500 vegetarian / vegan, and 500 meat eaters, about their sex lives.
This is what the study found:
- 57% of vegetarians make love 3-4 times a week
- 49% of meat eaters make love 1-2 times a week
- 84% of vegetarians report they are satisfied in their sex lives, compared to 59% of meat eaters
- 95% of the vegan participants said they were satisfied with their sex lives
- 58% of vegetarians claim they are givers in bed rather than takers, while 35% of meat eaters describe themselves as givers
This was by no means a scientifically correct study, so we should be careful at drawing too many conclusions. But it is an interesting data point nonetheless.
What is my takeaway from this and from the body of research on diet and sexual function?
My takeaway after countless hours of research and personal experimentation, is that (at least for me) the plant based route is preferable. It enables me to function significantly better both overall, as well as sexually.
In fact, there are certain plant foods (such as beetroot) that give me a noticeable boots in my sexual performance.
So for me, it is plant based until I die.
