Many people think that atherosclerosis (plaque build-up inside the blood vessels) is a normal part of aging.
Many people think that it is genetically determined, and if one of their parents had it, they are supposed to get it too.
Not the case!
Well yes, it is to some extent genetically determined, but only to a minor extent.
Would you like to know an almost 100% certain way of avoiding atherosclerosis?
I’ll tell you a minute.
First of all, lets understand what kind of damage it can cause:
Heart attacks, strokes, chronic kidney disease, peripheral vascular disease, erectile dysfunction, chronic partial blockages of coronary arteries resulting in chest pain (angina), blockages of intestinal arteries, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and more..
Did you know newborns can also have early stages of atherosclerosis? They can if their mother’s diet is poor.
So what causes atherosclerosis?
By and large a poor diet. In fact the american standard diet has been shown to promote it.
A diet that contains a large amount of animal products increases the likelihood for getting atherosclerosis substantially.
But also a sedentary lifestyle, tobacco, poor sleep, stress a few other unhealthy lifestyles can cause it.
Atherosclerosis is not a normal part of aging. It should not happen. But it happens because of poor lifestyles. In fact, there are several societies where it doesn’t exist. In many of these societies, the arteries of people are as healthy at 90, as they were when these people were young kids.
Because they eat plant-based, engage in frequent activity, and live relatively stress-free lives.
If you want to avoid atherosclerosis with an almost 100% track record, you would choose well to adopt this lifestyle. And also if you want to reduce or eliminate your current atherosclerosis.
Not to mention all the other health benefits you would reap. 😊
