Why do men suffer from erectile dysfunction?
There are several causes. It’s complex. But did you know that one major cause of ED is simply worrying about ED?
And more and more men are worrying about ED because of ads and billboards that ‘prepare’ men for the dreaded day with their penis may no longer work.
Hence, to some extent, erectile dysfunction is contagious.
But how does worrying about erectile dysfunction actually cause ED in the first place?
This can happen in two different ways:
Firstly, when you stress, you produce stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These stress hormones essentially make your body stop functioning sexually. So with large amounts of these hormones floating around in your blood, you will normally find it almost impossible to get and sustain an erection.
Secondly, if as you are about to have sex, start worrying about getting an erection, you are in trouble. Because you now take your mind off the pleasurable sensations of having sex (which will help you get an erection), and instead think negative thoughts (which will normally cause your erection to fade).
Similarly, if when you are having sex, you start thinking ‘Am I hard enough? Am I going soft? Will I loose my erection soon?’, you are also likely to loose your erection.
