More Than 50% Of Men With Diabetes Have ED

Diabetes Erectile Dysfunction
A research study published in Diabetic Medicine, which was based on 88,577 men with type 1 or 2 diabetes, found that 52.5% of the men with diabetes had erectile dysfunction to some extent.
Men with type 2 diabetes had a higher prevalence of ED, with 66.3%, compared to 37.5% of men with diabetes type 1.
Why are men with diabetes more likely to develop erectile dysfunction? One reason is higher blood sugar. More blood sugar means more production of superoxide (which destroys nitric oxide). Another reason is more plaque build-up in the blood vessels, which again reduces bloodflow. Diabetes may also cause damage to both sensory and autonomic nerves.
