Can Stop Smoking Make Erectile Dysfunction Go Away?

By Johnathan P Cumberwell

Men that smoke suffer more from erectile dysfunction than other men. I have previously written about this here and here.

In fact, studies have shown that men that smoke are up to 40% more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction than non-smokers.

A new research study has come out that looked at men who went through robotic prostatectomy for prostate cancer, and whether they quit or continued to smoke after the surgery.

This study examined 2,514 patients who underwent this procedure. 139 were identified as smokers and that also underwent a smoking cessation program.

Of these, 56 patients were able to quit smoking, while 83 started smoking again.

The study found that smoking cessation was associated with significant sexual function recovery after prostatectomy.

The people that quit smoking reported an almost 50% improved sexual function score.

What can we learn from this? Well, nothing new. But we have another data point that tells us that smoking is damaging your ability to function sexually. And if you do smoke and are keen to have a better sex life, you would be smart to consider quitting.
