Erectile Dysfunction More Common In Men With Hemophilia

Men who suffer from Hemophilia are more likely to also suffer from erectile dysfunction.

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder that makes it difficult for the body to make blood clots. You need blood clots to form in order to stop bleeding. Therefore, people with Hemophilia tend to experience excessive bleeding.

It is a disorder that affects less than 1 in 5,000 people. However, still millions of people suffer from Hemophilia.

Until now, little has been know about the relationship between Hemophilia and erectile dysfunction.

Therefore:

Canadian researchers performed a study on 44 participants, including 27 men with Hemophilia A and 17 men with Hemophilia B, to assess this relationship. The particpants had a median age of 49 years.

The study found that 39% of the men with Hemophilia had various degrees of erectile dysfunction, ranging from mild to severe.

The research also found that long-time smokers with high blood pressure, larger waist-to-hip ratio, and high levels of homocysteine (an amino acid linked to blood vessel inflammation) in the serum are more likely to develop ED.

The study did not draw conclusions regarding the reason why men with Hemophilia are more likely to suffer from ED.
