Researchers from Sapienza Universita di Roma have published a study that reports that lack of vitamin B6 (folic acid) is highly correlated with erectile dysfunction.
The research study proposed that folic acid is essential for what is called endothelial function. This again is what is responsible for production of nitric oxide.
In other words, a lack of vitamin B6 is likely to lead to inadequate nitric oxide production. And nitric oxide is a gas that is essential in order for a man to get an erection, as nitric oxide is what relaxes the smooth muscles in the penis and allows blood to enter and engorge the penis.
The researches found that the men in the study who suffered from ED had significantly lower levels of vitamin B6 than the men who did not have ED.
And men with the lowest levels of folic acid also had the most severe erectile dysfunction.
Foods that are rich in vitamin B6 are: Meat, fish, dairy, nuts, seeds and legumes.
