A new research study has looked at the correlation between men with psoriasis and erectile dysfunction.
What is psoriasis? It is a skin condition that causes cells to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin. This extra skin cells form scales and red patches that are itchy and sometimes painful.
The study that examined data from 28 earlier studies involving more than 1,8 milllion persons, found that men with psoriasis were at least 37% more likely to also suffer from erectile dysfunction.
Why is this the case?
If psoriasis are on the penis, this understandable may make it painful to have sex. But also, depression, anxiety and mood disorders are often accompanied with psoriasis. These mental conditions are also often highly correlated with ED.
Men with psoriasis are also often overweight or may have cardiovascular problems such as diabetes and hypertension.
It was also theorized that the inflammation from the psoriasis can impact sex hormones including testosterone levels, which again can cause erectile dysfunction.
