Yes, supplements can indeed treat erectile dysfunction. But you need to know how to take them, what supplements to take, and when to take them.
In fact, herbal supplements have been used for thousands of years both to treat erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac.
Herbal remedies have been, and still are, a centerpiece in many ancient practices such as traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda.
If they have been used for thousands of years and still are, there must be something to them, right? It would be bizarre if it were all a scam.

In fact, there is large body of scientific research supporting the use of herbal and non-herbal supplements for erectile dysfunction.
Let’s take a look at the scientific evidence supporting the use of supplements for erectile dysfunction.

Scientific Research Supporting The Aphrodisiac Effects Of Supplements

Although many herbal supplements have a long history of treating erectile dysfunction and improving sexual functions, the proof for this consisted of word of mouth, anecdotes and folklore.
That was until the last few decades, when we started doing research experiments to assess and document the effects of these supplements.

And I have collected the most significant individual research studies on a few selected supplements.
Because I have experimented with a large number of supplements, and I have found some that work amazingly well for me.

My Personal Experience With Supplements For Curing ED

In addition to the scientific evidence that exists for the pro-erectile and aphrodisiac effects of these supplements, I will also provide you with another piece of evidence:
The results of my very own personal experience using them.
You may have tried supplements for curing erectile dysfunction. And you may have had zero luck. And based on this you may think that these supplements don’t work.
I had the very same experience. Initially.
I tried a number of supplements, but I did not get any effect. I had no success.

Only after experimenting almost to the point of exhaustion, and in the end going a little crazy, did I find the key to these supplements.
But I can attest that supplements do work for me. And they work amazingly well when I use them in the correct way. More about that later.
Let me tell you my story..
The very first time I purchased a supplement, I bought a bottle of Ginko Biloba capsules. I was certain this would cure my ED. The reviews on the website were amazing and my hopes were sky high.
But nothing happened. There was no effect. Zero.
Although I was disappointed, I didn’t give up. I still believed that the right supplements could help me. So I kept on trying several other herbal and synthetic supplements.

I tried different supplements in capsule form. I tried tablets. I tried tinctures. I tried herbal tea. I tried supplements in loose powder.
However, for me, the results were always disappointing.
Almost always..
I say almost always, because, I did have three encouraging experiences.
Once when I tried a Tribulus Terrestris supplement in capsule form, I sensed a little something.
When I had sex after taking two capsules of this supplement, I could tell that the sensations from sex were a tiny bit amplified. Sex was a little more intense.
And it might have also possibly helped me get erections a little bit easier.

But the effect was by no means strong enough to help me cure erectile dysfunction. And also, the effect was not consistent. Meaning, sometimes it was there and sometimes not.
I had a very similar experience with Horny Goat Weed.
I took two capsules before having sex, and also this time did I feel that the pleasurable sensations were somewhat increased. There was an extra little kick. And also, I believe it made it a little bit easier to get erections.
But the effect was just barely noticeable and therefore not able to help me overcome my erectile dysfunction. And also, the effect was not consistent.
But it was very interesting nonetheless.
My third interesting experience was with L-arginine.

I had taken 1.5 grams of L-arginine (in capsule form) in the morning before heading to work.
When I sat on the bus looking out the window and minding my own business, I got a super hard erection out of nowhere.
It was early morning, I was sitting on the bus full of people and I had a rock hard erection in my pants!
This was highly unusual!
And I recall that this also happened a few more times after taking L-arginine. Every now and then got random erections seemingly out of nowhere.
Also when having sex, it seemed as if I got erections a little bit easier when taking L-arginine.
But the effects were faint, and not very consistent. Hence, neither L-arginine was able to cure my erectile dysfunction.

But at least I sensed something.
I kept experimenting with supplements to try to find something that could help me with my erectile dysfunction.
But I was not able to find anything that really worked.
I was close to giving up. I had spent lots of money and effort and several years had gone by, but I was left with nothing.
By now I had started thinking that all these supplements were a scam.
But before giving up, I decided to try two very last ‘things’.
I wanted to try Horny Goat Weed and Tribulus Terrestris one more time, since these two supplements had showed promise in the past.

And this time, I wanted to try super high quality versions of both supplements, because I suspected that the versions I used in the past were of poor quality.
I started with Horny Goat Weed. I bought what I believed was a very high quality version of the supplement, extracted to 60% icariin.
I followed the instructions that came with the supplement, and hence took 250 mg twice a day.
So I mixed 250 mg of the powder with water in the morning, and 250 mg after lunch.
My expectations were high. Very high.
But nothing happened. Not a hint of an effect.

What a disappointment. Another failure.
I got discouraged yet again.
But I still had the Tribulus Terrestris on my kitchen counter. And I wanted to also try this before giving up completely.
It was Tribulus Terrestris powder extracted to 90% Saponins, and it was supposed to be of very high quality.
However, I had been so disappointed with the Horny Goat Weed and all the other supplements. I had the feeling this too was going to fail. I just didn’t have much excitement left.
So I decided to go a little crazy.
Instead of taking 250 mg, I took a half-topped tablespoon.

Which turned out to be about 7 grams.
Or about 30 times the ‘recommended’ dose.
I mixed it in water and drank the mixture. It tasted absolutely horrible by the way. It almost made me vomit.
Then I sat down in the sofa with my girlfriend about an hour later and we started to kiss. And wow! All of a sudden, I got a super hard, raging erection!
It was so full and hard, it almost hurt!
This never happened!
And it was not one of those erections that came and went. It persisted!

Because as we continued to make out for several minutes, the erection kept pushing on my jeans.
We moved to the bedroom and got naked. While having sex, I had such a hard and firm erection it was out of this world! I could not remember having had such a full and rock hard erection ever. This was not normal!
Not only that.
The erection was incredibly hard for as long as I wanted. The erection didn’t fade or die down. It was hard as ever throughout the entire session.
But there was more:
Not only was my penis so hard and erect I could hardly believe it, but the sex itself was amazing!

After I had this discovery with Tribulus Terrestris, I also experimented with other supplements in a similar way.

What did I learn about supplements and their effects from this?
I learned a lot about how to take these supplements.

How To Take Supplements To Overcome Erectile Dysfunction?

I learned that most supplements are a waste of time and money. Most of them, despite good intentions, simply don’t work.
Why don’t most supplements work?
Oftentimes it is because they are too weak. There is simply not enough of the active ingredient in them.
Another reason is that the recommended dose of these supplements (as stated on the container or packaging) is too low to have much of an effect.

And the third reason is that taking supplements several hours in advance of sex often will not have much of an effect. Because by the time you have sex, your body will often have washed out much of the supplement from your body.
So what I learned is that there are three really important aspects to succeeding with these supplements:
  • Quality: Most supplements are of poor quality that don’t produce the desired effects. Only when I have taken supplements of very high quality, and which contain a large amount of the active ingredient, have they had any effect.
  • Dose: When I have taken supplements at recommended doses, I have normally not felt any effect. Only when I have taken large doses, have I gotten the desired effects.
  • Timing: Taking the supplements several hours before sex has not worked well for me. Only when I have taken them relatively soon before sex have I gotten the desired effects. I normally take them 60-90 minutes before sex, and this works really well.

Quality Of Supplements For Curing Erectile Dysfunction

Most herbal supplements you can buy at a nutritional or similar store, is not going to work. At least that is my experience.
These supplements are very often very mild. Meaning that they often contain only a small amount of the active ingredient.
For instance for Horny Goat Weed, where the active ingredient is Icariin, you will often see that these supplements only contain 5% or 10% icariin.
My experience is that a great Horny Goat Weed supplement should contain at least 50% icariin.
Also, sometimes these supplements have been sitting on the store shelf for several months, or even years. And it may have been even more months or years since they were actually produced.

Old supplements tend to be less effective than new ones.
And sometimes, these supplements don’t even contain what they are supposed to contain. Particularly cheap supplements have a large risk of not containing any, or less than the stated amount of the active ingredient.
In fact, when it comes to herbal supplements, I have never gotten good ones from regular nutrition or herbal stores.
Only when I have purchased these supplements directly from, or as close as possible to the manufacturer, have I had positive experiences.
However, when I have purchased them from the manufacturer, the supplements have normally been fresh and have contained what they are supposed to contain.

The herbal supplements featured above are all sold directly from the manufacturer, or at least very close to the manufacturer.
I also only buy herbal supplements in powder form. My experience is that this increases the chance that the supplements are clean and not mixed with fillers or otherwise tainted with.
The only supplement I take in capsule or tablet form is ZMA. I am happy taking this in capsules or tablets because they give me the desired effects. Also, the amount I take every time is only about 3 capsules or tablets (instead of 7 grams).

What Dosage To Take Of Supplements To Cure ED

Disclaimer: What you are about to read is based on my experiences with taking supplements, and how my body has reacted to these supplements. This should not be interpreted as advice from me to you. If you want to experiment with supplements, that is an independent choice you make. Also, your body may react differently to these supplements than how my body has reacted to them.

In order to get the desired effect from supplements, my experience is that a relatively large dose is needed.
I have tried countless supplements in countless forms. When I have followed the recommended dose as stated on the container or package, I have experienced no or very small effects.
For instance, taking 200 mg of even the finest, purest and highest quality Tribulus Terrestris powder, has had no noticeable effect on me. It is simply not enough to cause the desired reaction in my body.
Let’s say you’re super hungry. Eating a quarter of a slice of bread is probably not going to fill you up. You will still be hungry.
Same principle with these supplements.
Therefore, in order for my body to achieve the effects that I seek, I need to take larger doses.

I have found that about 7 grams of most of the herbal supplements work really well for me. Sometimes, a little less works fine as well, such as 5 grams. But I normally stick to about 7 grams.
7 grams is normally about a half-topped tablespoon.
But the dose I take depends on the supplement. Here is the dose I normally take of my favorite supplements:

When I take the supplements in these doses, my experience has consistently been positive. Meaning that when I take them in these doses, I do get the desired effects.

Timing: When To Take These Supplements

To take supplements in the morning, when I will have sex in the evening is almost pointless, at least in my experience.
The supplements will have a period when they will be most active in your body. This period typically lasts for something like 4-8 hours, depending on the supplement.
That is because your body digests and processes the supplements. Therefore, after a few hours, the effect of the supplements is gone.

I have found that taking the supplements 60-90 minutes before sex normally works really well. I can also take them a few hours before and get good results.
But on the other hand, I typically need to wait about an hour before I notice any effects.

What are the desired effects from these supplements?

The Sexual Effects From Supplements

When I take high quality versions of these supplements, when I take the right doses and at the right time, I get three different effects.
In other words, these supplements then impact my sexual experience in three different ways.

And the effect I got from this were even more amazing. The combinations were even more reliable than taking just one supplement, meaning they normally worked every time.

Why is this the case?
Well for starters, when I take a combination of 4 supplements instead of just 1, I take a larger volume of supplements (sexual fuel), which by itself should improve the effect.

Just like one supplement may increase testosterone via one pathway and another supplement may increase testosterone via another pathway.

Let me tell you about my experience combining these supplements.
After I had success using individual supplements, I decided to try a combination of L-arginine and Pine bark.

I have never gotten any negative side effects from supplements.
In fact, may of the supplements have several positive side effects. Meaning that they have other positive effects on your body, other than the sexual ones.
Some supplements contain lots of antioxidants, are antibacterial, restore hormonal imbalances, cure illnesses, etc.
So I have had great results taking large doses of supplements and even combining large doses of several supplements. But is this safe?

Safety Of Supplements For Erectile Dysfunction

Is it safe to take supplements in these doses? Is it safe to take more than 20 grams of these supplements?
When the recommended doses of many of these are less than 1 gram a day?
The answer?
I don’t know.
I am not a doctor and neither have I been able to find research studies that speak sufficiently about these supplements in these doses.
Therefore, I cannot say with certainty that taking supplements in these doses is safe.

However, what I can say, is that I have taken supplements in these large doses for several years, and I have, to the best of my understanding, never had any negative side effects. I have never had any problems or complications.
That said, your body may react differently to these supplements than does my body, and if you were to try these supplements in these doses, it is possible that your experience would be different.

Vitamins For Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Strength And Libido

I have so far spoken about supplements such as Tribulus Terrestris, that have a relatively long tradition of medicinal use.
But what about vitamins?
Are vitamins important in order to function well sexually?

Without a doubt. Vitamins are important for every process in the body, and also for getting erections, for having a strong libido and for avoiding erectile dysfunction?
Vitamins are also important for your sexlife.
Your body needs an adequate amount of all vitamins in order to function optimally. And you want an optimally functioning body in order to also enjoy sex optimally.
However, there are certain vitamins that are particularly important for a strong sex drive, for avoiding erectile dysfunction and for erectile strength.
Let’s take a look at these.
Let’s start with the B vitamins.

Vitamin B3, B6 And B9 For Erectile Dysfunction

Several research studies have shown that B vitamins, and particularly vitamin B3 (Niacin), B6 (Pyridoxine) and B9 (Folate) are essential for avoiding erectile dysfunction.
Let’s start with vitamin B3.
Vitamin B3 has demonstrated an ability to improve both cholesterollipid and triglyceride levels.
If you have elevated cholesterol, lipid and triglycerides levels in your blood, your blood will normally be thicker than it should be. That means it will flow slower through your body.
Elevated levels of these substances will also make it more likely that they will stick to the walls of your blood vessels to form deposits. When these deposits get substantial, they are referred to as atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis will make your blood vessels stiffer, more prone to leaks and eventually it can narrow your blood vessels so that it slows down bloodflow in your body.
Anything that negatively impacts bloodflow is likely to contribute or cause erectile dysfunction.
Vitamin B3 can help reverse all this by removing bad cholesterol, lipid and triglycerides from your blood.
Vitamin B3 is also an essential component for production of testosterone.

What about vitamin B6?

Vitamin B6 is also an important vitamin in order to function well sexually.
First of all vitamin B6 helps reduce elevated levels of a hormone called prolactin.
Elevated levels of prolactin will normally reduce testosterone levels and may also reduce levels of dopamine. Therefore, elevated levels of prolactin are negative for erectile dysfunction and libido.
Vitamin B6 is also important for the production of testosterone as well as optimal function of testosterone.
Vitamin B6 is also essential for the production of dopamine. And as we already know, dopamine is crucial for both having a healthy sex drive as well as for getting erections.

Vitamin C For Erectile Dysfunction

Adequate levels of vitamin C are also very important in order to function optimally sexually.
Vitamin C has demonstrated an ability to increase nitric oxide synthase activity. With more nitric oxide synthase activity, your production of nitric oxide will normally increase.

In other words, you need sufficient levels of vitamin C in order to produce enough nitric oxide.
Vitamin C is also a very efficient antioxidant. This means it is good at killing off free radicals. When there are fewer free radicals left, more of your nitric oxide will survive. Nitric oxide by the way is also a free radical.
Free radicals react very easily with elements in its path and it can therefore cause damage to anything it react with. This is called oxidative stress.

Vitamin D is another vitamin that is very important in order to function sexually.
First of all, vitamin D is a building block of testosterone. Meaning, in order for your testes to produce testosterone, they need vitamin D.

If you don’t have enough vitamin D, you will normally produce inadequate amounts of testosterone. And with low levels of testosterone, you will find it very difficult to get erections and function sexually.
Vitamin D is also important in order for your body to produce nitric oxide. That is because the enzyme nitric oxide synthase needs vitamin D to efficiently produce nitric oxide.
In addition, research has shown a strong correlation between atherosclerosis and vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin E has in research studies been shown to both work as a powerful antioxidant and to increase nitric oxide production.
As a powerful antioxidant, vitamin E eliminates free radicals. This in turn means that more nitric oxide will survive, as fewer free radicals are left to eliminate nitric oxide.
In addition, vitamin E has also demonstrated an ability to support the production of nitric oxide directly.

Should You Take Supplements Or Viagra For Erectile Dysfunction?

I have taken both, and I will give you my thoughts.
I struggled with erectile dysfunction for more than 10 years. And in trying to overcome and cure my ED, I tried many different approaches.
