Viagra Trial On Pregnant Women = 11 Dead Babies

Babies
A Dutch research study running since 2015, aimed at assessing the safety and effectiveness of Sildenafil (Viagra) on unborn babies who had severe fetal growth restriction, and who faced significant risk of being stillborn or dying after birth.

183 mothers participated. Half of these mothers were treated with Sildenafil, while the other half were given a placebo.

Researchers hoped that the drug could open up blood vessels in the placenta and then help the growth of the fetuses.

However, the researchers found that Sildenafil was associated with the babies developing a blood vessel disease in the lungs and with an increase in the risk of death after birth.

As a result, 19 babies born to the women treated with Sildenafil died, 11 of them due to the lung disorder. In comparison, 9 babies born to women treated with the placebo died, but none of them had the lung disorder.

The study was discontinued because of the results.

What does this mean for men taking Sildenafil (Viagra)? Can men also die from Viagra?

Viagra does have several short-term and long-term side effects. However, we still don’t know much about the implications – on men – from the latest finding on pregnant women. Maybe it’s a big deal, maybe it’s not.

But it’s probably fair to say that Viagra should be taken with caution and in moderation.
