Why are testosterone, nitric oxide and dopamine important? How do these elements help me function better sexually?

Testosterone is the male sex hormone which underlies, controls and supports anything sexual. It is a necessary ingredient for working sexually and to reproduce. Without testosterone, it would be almost impossible to have a sex drive, get erections or have sex.

Nitric oxide is a gas that is paramount in order for a man to get an erection. It is what relaxes the smooth muscles in the penis and allows blood to flow into the penis so that an erection can form.

Dopamine is essential in order to have a craving for sex, or a sex drive. It is also critical in order for the whole erection process to start. With on or too little dopamine, it would be almost impossible to get erections.

However, in order for these supplements to have the desired effects (produce testosterone, nitric oxide and dopamine), I have found three criteria to be very important: Quality, timing and doze.

I would be very careful that I was only using a very high quality and high potency version of these supplements.

My experience is that, particularly when it comes to the herbal supplements, most of them are a waste of money and time. This is because they normally do not contain enough of the active ingredient.

For instance, for Tribulus Terrestris, the active ingredient is something called saponins. If the supplement was extracted to only contain 10% saponins instead of 80%, it goes without saying that the supplement will be less potent.

I would be particularly careful with quality when it comes to Tribulus Terrestris and also (but to a lesser extent) pine bark. I think all the Tribulus Terrestris supplements I have purchased from regular nutritional or herbal stores, whether from a physical store or online, have been a waste of money and time.

Only when I have purchased pure Tribulus Terrestris powder either directly from a high quality manufacturer or from a distributor of this manufacturer, have I gotten solid products.

I would also be somewhat careful when it comes to pine bark supplements, however, most of what I have purchased has been of good quality.

When it comes to l-arginine and ZMA, these are synthetically produced supplements (not extracted from plants) and the production is simpler and also more regulated. Therefore, the quality is typically always the same, regardless of whether bought from a nutritional store or very reputable seller.

The reason for taking l-citrulline would be in order to increase my nitric oxide levels. Nitric oxide is a molecule that is essential in order to get an erection. It is diffused into the smooth muscles of the penis, which enables these muscles (which are in contraction) to relax. When they relax, blood is allowed to flow into the penis.

In order for nitric oxide to be created, two atoms are needed: Nitrogen and oxygen. Oxygen is typically found in abundance in the body, but nitrogen is not as easy to come by. However, l-arginine is a very good donor of nitrogen. Therefore, if the body has sufficient amounts of l-arginine, it is normally much easier to produce enough nitric oxide.

I could also take l-arginine instead of l-citrulline, however l-arginine tends to react quickly with other elements in the body and therefore, little l-arginine is normally left for creating nitric oxideL-citrulline does not go through the same process, but rather, at the end of the digestive process, l-citrulline is converted to l-arginine. Therefore l-citrulline is generally more effective at delivering l-arginine for nitric oxide production.

In order to increase my own nitric oxide production, I would therefore supplement with l-citrulline.

I would take a half-topped tablespoon of l-arginine in powder form, or about 7 grams. L-citrulline is an inexpensive supplement and can be bought at most health and supplement stores, at many herbalists, at many pharmacies and online. When I take this supplement, I mix 7 grams of it in water, and drink it. It has a taste of citrus, and to me the taste is fine.

The reason for taking pine bark would also be to increase my nitric oxide production.

Pine bark is the bark from a tree called Pinus Pinaster (a regular pine tree). This bark has normally gone through a process where a specific chemical called procyanidin has been extracted. Procyanidin is able to increase nitric oxide production.

What procyanidin does, is to make the enzyme called nitric oxide synthase (the enzyme that produces nitric oxide) more efficient at producing nitric oxide. Therefore, if the body has sufficient access to oxygen and nitrogen for production of nitric oxide, procyanidin can enable even more nitric oxide to be produced.

Procyanidin is also a powerful antioxidant, and as such it is able to protect nitric oxide (which is itself a free radical) from other free radicals. It does this by reacting with an eliminating the harmful free radicals. This in turn means that more nitric oxide can can be available to support erections.

I would take a pine bark supplement that contains at least 50% procyanidin and I would take about 7 grams of this in powder form, or about a half-topped tablespoon.

When I first took pine bark in powder form, I mixed a half-topped tablespoon of it in water, and then drank it. The problem with this (for me at least) is that the taste is (in my opinion) absolutely disgusting.

Therefore, I prefer to put the powder in capsules. When I swallow the capsules, there is no taste. You find a capsule maker set and capsules here.

When purchasing pine bark, I would like to see a certificate from the seller that states that the pine bark contains a certain % extract of procyanidin, and that it contains below acceptable amounts of toxins, if any. To purchase a high quality pine bark supplements, you can go here

ZMA is a synthetic supplement that contains zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6. The reasons for taking ZMA would be to 1) increase testosterone, 2) support androgen receptors, 3) increase dopamine production, 4) increase nitric oxide production and, 5) decrease  prolactin levels.

Both zinc and magnesium are important for testosterone production, as well as for maintenance of the androgen receptors. These receptors (testosterone is an androgen) connect with the testosterone and enable testosterone to carry out its functions.

All three components of ZMA (zincmagnesium and vitamin B6) are part of the team that produces, regulates, supports and maintains dopamine production.

Magnesium is also very important in order for nitric oxide to be able carry out the tasks it is supposed to carry out.

And lastly, vitamin B6 is important in order to maintain healthy levels of the hormone prolactin, and particularly to ensure these levels are do not get excessively high.

Prolactin is the hormone that is released when a man has an orgasm, and which makes further sexual activity almost impossible. High levels of this hormone can make it difficult to function well sexually.

I would take about 0.75 grams of ZMA, which normally comes out to 3 capsules or tablets of ZMAZMA is a fairly standardized supplement, and in my experience the quality has been consistent almost regardless of where I purchased it.

If you want to purchase ZMA online, you can get it here.

Tribulus Terrestris is plant that is native to the tropical regions of Europe, southern Asia, Africa and Australia. The active ingredient in Tribulus Terrestris is called saponins, and are normally extracted from the leaves of the plant.

I would take Tribulus Terrestris to both increase testosterone levels as well as making the body’s manufacturing process of nitric oxide more efficient.

Tribulus Terrestris is able to increase testosterone because saponins are a precursor to something called dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which is in turn a building block of testosteroneTribulus Terrestris also stimulates the release of a hormone called luteinizing hormone, which in turn instructs cells in the testes to produce testosterone.

Tribulus Terrestris is able to increase nitric oxide production by making the enzyme nitric oxide synthase more efficient at producing nitric oxide.

I would take about 7 grams of Tribulus Terrestris in powder form.

I used to take Tribulus Terrestris in powder form, mixing a half-topped tablespoon of it in water, and then drinking0 it. This works just fine, but the taste is (in my opinion) pretty awful, so I prefer to put the powder in capsules. When I swallow the capsules, there is no taste. If you want to purchase a capsule maker set and capsules, you find them here.

When it comes to purchasing Tribulus Terrestris, I would be very careful with quality and always ensure I got a satisfactory certificate from the seller regarding the content. I would also try to purchase Tribulus Terrestris directly from the manufacturer, or one of its wholesalers.

If you want to purchase high quality Tribulus Terrestris, you can find it here.

Similarly to the preceding three weeks, I would also this time prefer to be with an understanding and patient partner, and for us to work together towards overcoming my erectile dysfunction and libido problems. This would make it a lot easier to go through this program, and probably also increase the probabilities for success.

I would also this time be very straight-to-the-point about the sex. I would not engage in much foreplay – just enough to get an erection, and then proceed to intercourse. The reason is that I would want to avoid losing my erection. Getting a ‘new’ erection after losing it the first time can sometimes be difficult. Therefore, I would proceed to sex as soon as I had a strong and firm erection.

I would have sex in my favorite position(s). And if it were safe, I would not use a condom. By having sex in my favorite position(s) and not using a condom, I would increase my pleasure, which should normally also lead to firmer erections and an increased chance of successful sex.

If possible, I would also this time try to not get to the point of having an orgasm. By doing so, I could continue to build up my libido instead of reducing it. To learn more about my experience with orgasm and ejaculation on Truelibido, please go here.

I would by now be eight weeks into the program. My body might by now be ready for sex. The only way to find out, would be to have sex. Therefore I would also in this week try to have sex once.

If I was able to have sex successfully in this week, then I might have found a cure to my own erectile dysfunction. I should then presumably, simply by maintaining the principles from week 1-8, be able to consistently function well sexually.

If sex was indeed successful in this week, I could stop further advances into the program. It should be enough to maintain the actions I had taken on from these eight weeks. Meaning, continuing these principles should be enough for me to overcome my sexual problems.

If I had now solved my erectile dysfunction and libido problems, it is very likely that these problems were directly caused by one or more of the following: excessive sexual stimulation, nutritional deficiency, smoking / drinking / drug abuse, inadequate exercise, weak pelvic floor muscles, stress, bad sleep, or insufficient sun exposure.

Or my body might have struggled with inadequate levels of nitric oxide, testosterone or dopamine.

If sex was now satisfactory, I could then adjust how often I could have sex and still function well sexually. If I had sex twice every day, I would probably stop functioning super well after some time. But I could experiment with this frequency and find something that worked for me. Perhaps this would be 1-3 times a week.

In order to remain highly sexually charged, I would also limit the frequency of my orgasms to once every 4-6 weeks.

Even if I was able to have successful sex after these eight weeks, there would be nothing preventing me from continuing to week nine and ten of the program, if I wanted to. If I thought I could achieve further progress by following the step-by-step plan, for instance to get a stronger libido, I could of course do that.

Also, if sex was indeed successful and I wanted to try to find the one or the few causes, that were responsible for my erectile dysfunction and libido problems, I could start to reverse the program. I could then try to remove the actions I took on from (for instance) week 7 (sunshine), and see if after this I was still able to function sexually.

So if by maintaining all the principles in week 1-8 for a few weeks, other than getting sunshine, I was still able to function well sexually, the lack of sunshine was probably not responsible for my erectile dysfunction and libido problems. If I wanted to, I could now roll back another change, and then another, etc., to try to get to the very bottom of what caused my problems.

If I was still not able to have satisfactory sex in this week, I would not give up, but continue the program. There is a chance that my body still needed more time to adjust, and there is also a chance that the new supplement I would try next week could help me.

Even if sex was still not successful, I would write down any progress I had had. For instance if I had more frequent spontaneous erections, or if I had a stronger sex drive, these would be progress and positive signs.

Regarding safety: You may wonder if it would be safe to take supplements in these dozes? With 7 grams of several of the supplements, I would take more than 20 grams of supplements in total. Is this safe?

The answer is that I don’t know. I don’t know whether these amounts could cause health complications, nor do I know whether taking these supplements in high dozes over time could cause long-term problems.

What I do know, is that during the 3-4 years I have taken these supplements in high dozes, to my knowledge, I have never had any side-effects or any complications or problems.
